Meijer Inc. has completed its goal for all 204 stores to donate unused fresh food with eight new food bank partnerships in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana.

“We are very excited about what these partnerships represent: Another way to get good food to those who are hungry,” co-chairman Doug Meijer said is a press release. “Not only are we helping with hunger relief, our program provides healthy choices to a greater number of people who rely on food banks for their meals.”

The retailer donated over 3.2 million pounds of meat, cheese, deli and bakery items to local food banks in the past year. Food banks pick up these items from stores 2-3 days each week.
