Albertsons Cos. efforts to stake out ground behind a service-quality offering in Texas is taking shape behind its Tom Thumb brand, which this month opened a new flagship in Fort Worth.

Dallas-Fort Worth is a unique market for the Boise, Idaho-based company, where as a result of acquisitions of United Supermarkets and Tom Thumb parent Safeway, it operates under several different store banners. Albertsons officials have said they would endeavor to go to market behind brands most relevant for their areas, so the new Fort Worth Tom Thumb indicates the direction the company is pointing, particularly in growing areas like the West 7th District, where this store officially opened April 5.
