Amy McClellan has been promoted to vice president of fresh merchandising for the retail operations at SpartanNash.

Plans call for McClellan — currently division vice president of retail at SpartanNash and senior vice president of retail operations and merchandising at Martin’s — to start in her new role on March 8, SpartanNash said late yesterday. She will report to Joe McQuesten, senior vice president of merchandising.

“Amy’s strong leadership in merchandising, market development and strategic growth initiatives will help to grow and expand the fresh merchandising categories at SpartanNash,” Lori Raya, chief merchandising and marketing officer at SpartanNash, said in a statement.

As vice president of fresh merchandising, McClellan (left) will oversee fresh product categories and develop strategy to drive their growth at SpartanNash’s more than 150 company-owned stores and 2,100 independent retail locations. Her responsibilities will include managing overall product assortment, ensuring high-quality products and introducing new solutions to meet changing customer needs.

McClellan has held her current roles since food wholesaler and retailer SpartanNash closed its acquisition of Indiana grocer Martin’s in January of 2019. The company noted that she recently marked her 20-year anniversary with Martin’s. She started her career at the chain as a part-time cashier while in high school and advanced to roles of increasing responsibility, including communications specialist, market research supervisor, loyalty and marketing program manager, director of marketing, and vice president of sales and marketing.

Overall, SpartanNash operates 154 supermarkets in Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin under the banners Ada Fresh Market, D&W Fresh Market, Dan’s Supermarket, Dillonvale IGA, Econofoods, Family Fare, Forest Hills Foods, Fresh City Market, Martin’s Super Markets, No Frills, Pick’n Save, SunMart, Supermercado Nuestra Familia, ValuLand and VG’s Grocery.
