Hymas out as head of Cub Foods
Ferguson to serve as interim president
Eric Hymas, president of Supervalu’s Cub Food retail stores, is leaving the company effective Feb. 25, a Supervalu spokesman told SN Thursday.
Hymas had served as Cub president since January of 2016. Chad Ferguson, Supervalu’s VP of marketing and consumer insights, has assumed the role of interim president of Cub, effective immediately.
Supervalu did not provide a reason for Hymas’ departure.
Ferguson joined Supervalu in 2013 after more than 20 years with Kroger, where he gained store leadership, merchandising and operations experience. At Supervalu, Ferguson has filled interim president roles on two other occasions, including Farm Fresh in 2013 and Shop ’n Save in 2015.
Hymas (left) in 2013 was named president of Supervalu’s Shop ’n Save, succeeding Marlene Gebhard. He is a former SVP of merchandising for Supervalu, which included responsibility for all categories across center store, as well as beverages, fuel and convenience, and fresh departments.
Cub, based in Stillwater, Minn., operates 81 grocery stores.
“Chad is a dynamic leader with a wealth of experience and I’m very pleased he will be stepping in to lead Cub,” Anne Dament, SVP of retail, merchandising, and marketing at Supervalu, said in a prepared statement. “We appreciate Eric’s many contributions to Cub and Supervalu over the years and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
