Aldi said Thursday it would look to fill more than 2,500 open positions during the month of August, seeking store associates, shift managers and manager trainees.

The jobs will help Aldi to expand. The Batavia, Ill.-based retailer is in the midst of a plan to open some 600 stores and hire 10,000 new employees by 2018.

“As we continue to expand and meet increased demand for high-quality, fresh groceries at a great value, these hiring events are critical to finding the best possible talent to serve our customers,” Jason Hart, CEO of Aldi US, said in a statement. “We firmly believe that our employees are the key to our success and their commitment to customer service is one of the reasons why we’re growing at an accelerated pace. To attract and retain the best talent, we have a strong track record of being an employer of choice, rewarding our employees for their continued service and promoting from within.”

Local hiring events will begin in September, creating more than 1,100 jobs by the end of 2016 for its new stores, as well as at the company’s regional headquarters and warehouse in Moreno Valley, Calif.
