SALISBURY, N.C. — Delhaize's Bottom Dollar Food chain, which last year expanded around Philadelphia, could announce an expansion to Pittsburgh shortly, according to local reports.
Delhaize officials in January confirmed that Bottom Dollar had purchased a former Foodland store in the Pittsburgh suburb of Penn Hills, but thus far have declined to elaborate on plans for it. A report in the Tribune-Review newspaper last week said a Raleigh, N.C.-based developer — C. Brantley Tillman of Commercial Properties Inc. — said a client he represents could announce as many as 11 Pittsburgh-area stores "within weeks."
Another published report identified Bottom Dollar as a grocer looking to build a new location in McKeesport, Pa., slated for a September opening.
A Bottom Dollar spokesman wasn't immediately available for comment Wednesday.
