NEW YORK — The Association for Retail Technology Standards (ARTS), the standards division of the National Retail Federation, announced version 1.0 of the white paper “Cloud Computing for Retail,” which offers “unbiased guidance” for achieving maximum results from this relatively new technology, according to an ARTS statement.
Cloud computing lowers IT costs by allowing users to rent computer processing capacity instead of purchasing additional equipment, employ applications on a pay-for-use basis and access applications and files from anywhere.
The cloud computing white paper was developed by an ARTS member committee of retailers and vendors, chaired by Kroger and IBM, and including Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco, Epson, Lowe’s, BJ’s Wholesale, Verizon and others.
“Retailers considering cloud computing will find this white paper an excellent guide for success,” said Richard Mader, executive director of ARTS. “It provides unbiased insight into evaluating services and models, as well as the construction of an effective cloud infrastructure.”
The cloud computing paper is available on www.nrf-arts.org, free to ARTS members and $249 for non-members.
