Coborn’s is expanding its presence in Wisconsin with the acquisition of Marketplace Foods, a four-store grocery and liquor chain in western Wisconsin.

Marketplace Foods’ 400-person leadership and employee team will continue to operate the acquired stores in Hayward, Menomonie, Rice Lake and St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin under the Marketplace Foods banner, Coborn's said.

“By expanding into Wisconsin and adding these four stores into the Coborn’s family, we are experiencing positive, strategic growth for our company,” said Coborn’s president, chairman and CEO Chris Coborn in a press release.

“Marketplace Foods has a history of solid performance and a culture that is well aligned with our culture at Coborn’s. These four stores are beautiful — destination shopping experiences — and I’m excited to include them in the Coborn’s family of stores.”

Coborn's operates only one other store in Wisconsin, a Save-A-Lot store in Beloit, Wis. The company also operates Coborn's, Cash Wise Foods and Save-A-Lot banners in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois.
