NEW YORK — Local supermarket operator D'Agostino Markets is closing one of its Manhattan locations this Saturday, a company spokeswoman told SN.

She said workers at the store, on West 17th Street store in the Chelsea neighborhood, would be reassigned to other locations. No other stores are slated for closure, she said.

"We regret that this Saturday, April 2, will be our last day in business at this location," a printout accompanying register receipts at the stores stated, directing customers to the nearest D'Agostino's location, in the Greenwich Village neighborhood. "We appreciate your patronage over the years."

The privately owned chain currently operates 15 stores in Manhattan and three in neighboring Westchester County, N.Y., according to its website.

Local reports last year said the company had been seeking buyers for its Westchester stores. In 2006 the company had said it planned to close another Greenwich Village location, but that store remains in operation.
