Dollar Tree to build new DC in Missouri

Dollar Tree has agreed to invest $110 million to build a 1.2-million square-foot distribution center in Warrensberg, Mo., state officials said.

The facility will support Dollar Tree’s new and existing stores in the Midwest and is expected to see 150 to 200 inbound and outbound trucks a day and employ approximately 375 workers, the Missouri Department of Economic Development said in a release.

Chesapeake, Va.-based Dollar Tree operates the Dollar Tree and Family Dollar discount brands and currently operates 11 U.S. distribution centers. The company opened 566 new stores during the fiscal year ended Jan. 28 and anticipates 650 new stores this fiscal year, officials said.

“Dollar Tree is a large and growing organization,” Dollar Tree CEO Bob Sasser said in a statement. “We have been very impressed with the business-friendly approach that the State of Missouri, Johnson County and the City of Warrensburg have provided. This project demonstrates our commitment to western Missouri by creating hundreds of jobs in the region. We are proud to become a bigger part of the local community.”

The company said it expects construction would begin shortly and the center center to be operational in May of 2018. The project is contingent upon the approval of local incentives.
