Eidson to Succeed Sturken as Spartan CEO

Spartan Stores yesterday said in a filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission that its board of directors had named Dennis Eidson as the company’s new chief executive officer, effective Oct. 15.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Spartan Stores here yesterday said in a filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission that its board of directors had named Dennis Eidson as the company’s new chief executive officer, effective Oct. 15. Eidson, 54, has been Spartan's president and chief operating officer since last year. He would succeed Craig Sturken, who is slated to remain at the company as executive chairman. Before joining Spartan in 2003 as executive vice president of marketing and merchandising, Eidson had been president and CEO of A&P's Midwest region. Sturken also joined Spartan in 2003 and spearheaded a turnaround that included a series of acquisitions and divestitures.
