BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Food Bazaar, a New York-based chain with 16 stores specializing in serving inner-city customers, is slated to host a grand opening of its first Connecticut location here next Thursday, May 6.

The 61,000-square-foot location will include prepared foods, an in-store bakery, a tortilleria, custom-cut meats and an "extensive variety of international and specialty foods and products," the company said Tuesday.

“We pride ourselves on going to great lengths in order to provide each of the communities that we serve with the flavors that they love and recall from 'back home' as well as providing a culinary adventure for those seeking something new and exciting,” said Suzanne Kuczun, a spokeswoman for the chain, in a prepared statement.

Food Bazaar, launched in 1988, is owned by the An family. The stores specialize in a variety of ethnic offerings, including Caribbean, West Indian, African and Asian.
