Former CEO Countersues A&P

HACKENSACK, N.J. — James Wood, the former chief executive officer of A&P, has filed a countersuit against the company in Superior Court here, alleging that the retailer’s suit against him seeking repayment of his retirement package was based on a personal vendetta, reports said.

Montvale, N.J.-based A&P filed a lawsuit last August claiming that Wood had been overpaid by $467,814 through his retirement package, which is funded through an annuity. Wood retired in 1995.

In his counterclaim, he alleges that Christian Haub, the current chairman, is seeking revenge against him because of comments Wood made about Haub’s inexperience when Wood retired, according to a report in on northjersey.com.

A&P could not be reached for comment.
