LANDOVER, Md. — Giant Food here on Thursday said it had tentatively agreed to transfer its dry grocery warehouse operations to an affiliate of C&S Wholesale Grocers.
The retailer said it would make transfer arrangements for its Jessup, Md., dry grocery warehouse within 90 days with a potential transfer to the C&S affiliate, to be known as Jessup Logistics, by year-end.
Giant in a statement said the move would streamline its operations and allow it to focus on sourcing and supply of perishable groceries. “This move is designed to better position our supply chain network to be more efficient and flexible while still offering superior value and quality to our customers,” Robin Michel, president of Giant, said in a statement.
Giant, a division of Quincy, Mass.-based Ahold, said Jessup Logistics would adopt current labor agreements with the same terms and conditions covering union workers. C&S, based in Keane, N.H., took over frozen-food distribution for Giant a few years ago.
