CARLISLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores here announced yesterday that Casper Meijer has been appointed executive vice president of format and merchandising for the chain, effective Feb. 23.

He succeeds Jeff Martin, former executive vice president of sales and merchandising, who recently transferred to Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover in Quincy, Mass., as executive vice president of merchandising and supply chain. Meijer, who will report to Sander van der Laan, president and chief executive officer of Giant-Carlisle, will lead all merchandising and format development initiatives.

Meijer joined Ahold in 1999 as director of merchandising at Albert Heijn and was promoted to senior vice president of sourcing for Ahold Europe. In 2005 he joined Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover as senior vice president of corporate brands and was promoted to senior vice president of perishable merchandising the following year.
