CHICAGO — IGA here said yesterday it has chosen five finalists as IGA USA Retailer of the Year. Three of the finalists will be named winners at the IGA USA Rally Award Banquet in Merrillville, Ind., on Nov. 7; during that ceremony, one of the three will be awarded the additional title of IGA USA International Retailer of the Year. That winner will also be recognized with winners from other countries at the 2009 IGA Global Summit in Sydney, Australia, on March 15. The finalists are Bob Buonomano, Bob's Windham IGA, Willimantic, Conn.; Tom Kishman, Kishman's IGA, Minerva, Ohio; Allen Milam, Milam's Market IGA #1, Miami; Rick Stewart, Susanville Supermarket IGA, Susanville, Calif.; and Jeff Zollpriester, Quality Foods IGA, Schofield, Wis. IGA officials will visit all five stores and determine the three winners; those three will be required to submit a short essay explaining how their stores demonstrate operational excellence, and those essays will be used to select the IGA USA International Retailer of the Year.
