BETHPAGE, N.Y. — King Kullen Grocery Co. said Thursday that it would close its Hylan Boulevard store in Staten Island, N.Y., next month, citing the current economic environment.

The store, a former Pathmark, was one of five Staten Island stores acquired from A&P as a result of federally mandated divestitures related to the A&P-Pathmark merger.

United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1500, which represents employees at the store, in a press release Thursday urged the company to keep the store open and said it would work to find members work in other union supermarkets.
