MODESTO, Calif. — Save Mart Supermarkets here said Friday it would be accepting donations at eight Lucky Stores locations in the Bay Area to support fire relief efforts by the American Red Cross in conjunction with the major fire that occurred Thursday in San Bruno when a gas line exploded.

Customers will be able to make contributions at the checkstand, which will be itemized on their receipts as a donation to the Red Cross, the company said.

According to Steve Junqueiro, president and chief operating officer of Save Mart, "The loss from fire in San Bruno is a tragedy that affects the entire community. The Red Cross is at the forefront of fire and disaster relief. They are experienced and well equipped to ensure the right aid is provided where most needed."
