Obituary: Elsie Stater

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Funeral services have been held here for Elsie Stater, widow of Cleo Stater, one of the co-founders of Stater Bros. Markets. She died earlier this month. The chain, based here, was founded in 1936 by her husband, who died in 2001, and his twin brother Leo, who died in 1985. Jack Brown, the current chairman and chief executive officer of Stater Bros., said, “We will miss Elsie's visits and calls to us.”
