PHILADELPHIA — Judy Spires, president of Acme Markets, will be the 2009 recipient of the Paradigm Award, the region’s most prestigious honor for businesswomen, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce here said last week. Spires is a 30-year veteran of the supermarket industry who began her career as a teenage clerk at an Acme store. Spires previously held executive positions in Albertsons’ Dallas/Fort Worth and Rocky Mountain divisions. She was appointed to her position at Malvern, Pa.-based Acme shortly after Supervalu acquired Albertsons. Spires, who will be presented with the award at an event in March, was selected for showing dedication to an expanding business, along with involvement with charitable organizations and support for women in the workplace, the Chamber said.
