SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Services will be held Wednesday for Lewis Golub, the former chairman of Price Chopper Supermarkets, who died Sunday at age 78.
Golub and his cousin, Neil Golub, the current president and chief executive officer, took over the family business from the previous generation in the mid-1970s. The company was founded by Lewis Golub's father and uncle. One of Lewis Golub's contributions was the establishment of an employee ownership plan for the chain.
"Lewis’ financial acumen and strategic sense helped put our company on firm ground and enabled us to grow in our home Capital Region and throughout the Northeast,” said Neil Golub in a prepared statement.
