Raley's, UFCW Reach Tentative Agreement

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Raley's here said picket lines at its stores will come down immediately after it reached a tentative agreement early Tuesday with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union on a new contract.

Michael Teel, president and chief executive officer, said the new contract "provides us with the cost savings we need to fund our vision and the initiatives to make us more competitive in the 21st century."

"It will be great to have everyone back working again," he added.

Members of UFCW Local 5 and Local 8-Golden State will vote on the tentative agreement at a date to be determined. The union launched a strike against Raley's and its Nob Hill subsidiary at midnight on Sunday, Nov. 4, following a year of on-and-off negotiations to negotiate a successor contract to the one that expired in October 2011.
