CHICAGO — Roundy’s Supermarkets has signed leases to operate stores in Chicago, developers said last week. Capri Capital Partners here confirmed that Roundy’s has signed a lease at Metropolis, a mixed-use project under construction in the Bronzeville area of the city.
Also last week, reports said Roundy’s signed a lease to build a 55,000-square-foot grocery store in the Lakeshore East development, according to Crain’s Chicago Business. Roundy’s sought the developer of the project after local food retailer Treasure Island backed out of a deal to build a store there, according to Crain’s.
A Roundy’s spokeswoman earlier this month told SN the Milwaukee-based retailer had pulled out of a project to build a store in the West Loop due to a developer default but said the company still has plans to enter the Chicago market, which it announced two years ago. Reports last week said developers planned to break ground for the first Roundy’s store there later this year.
