MODESTO, Calif. — Oscar Garcia, a grocery clerk at a Sparks, Nev., unit of Save Mart Supemarkets here, was awarded a 2009 Dodge Challenger hemi-powered muscle car yesterday — the first of three employees who are being given cars during the fourth quarter for their commitment to customer satisfaction. The other two winners will be disclosed in December. Garcia was among the employees who received the highest scores from their peers and managers during the company's annual evaluation process. According to Steve Junqueiro, chief operating officer, the Customer Connection awards are given to employees "[who] help to create a positive shopping experience for our customers and set our stores apart from the competition." Garcia was named the first car winner during Save Mart management's annual holiday store tour, which kicked off yesterday in northern Nevada. Cars will be awarded to employees at an S-Mart store in Stockton, Calif., and a Save Mart in Marina, Calf., when the holiday visits reach those stores on Dec. 11 and Dec. 15, respectively. Save Mart has been awarding cars for the past three years to employees who exhibit outstanding customer service. Other prizes given out during prior quarters, based on employee scores, including trips, bicycles, gift cards and cash.
