Services held for Food-A-Rama co-founder

Services were held in Baltimore Sunday for Sonia Diamond, who co-founded the Food-A-Rama chain with her husband Paul Diamond and in-laws Ben and Devora Schuster.

Sonia Diamond passed away Jan. 2 at age 92. Born in Poland, she was a Holocaust survivor who emigrated with her husband to the United States in 1947. They opened their first store together in 1948. In 1960, the group opened its first full-scale supermarket named Food-A-Rama, growing the chain to 48 stores before selling it to supplier Super-Rite Foods in 1984.
