WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — Shaw’s said workers represented by United Food and Commercial Workers Local 791 have ratified a new, five-year contract covering 5,500 employees at 38 stores in southern Massachusetts and Rhode Island and the Shaw’s distribution center in Wells, Maine. Shaw’s said the contract provides for “increases in wages, overall increases in company contributions to health care benefits, and a continuation of pension benefits.” The contract allows Shaw’s “to be competitive and flexible,” said Larry Wahlstrom, Shaw’s president, in a prepared statement. The agreement was reached just hours before the old contract was set to expire on Sunday.
