NEW YORK — Supermarket News has opened nominations for the “SN Hall of Fame” to recognize those who have made extraordinary and lasting impacts on the food distribution industry.

The Hall of Fame was launched last year to honor food retailing leaders. Inaugural inductees were: Charles Butt, H.E. Butt Grocery Co.; Jim Sinegal, Costco Wholesale Corp.; and the late Robert Wegman, Wegmans Food Markets.

This year the Hall of Fame will be expanded to include nominees from the consumer packaged goods/manufacturing sector in addition to retailers and wholesalers.

Nominees can be active, former or retired industry participants. A nominee's entire career will be considered. Attributes of those entered into the Hall of Fame include a person's lasting positive impact through actions, vision, accomplishments, innovation, leadership, influence, courage, high standards, ethics and as a role model.

SN's editors, in consultation with the industry, will make final decisions.

Those wishing to nominate candidates should go to insidepenton.com/research/sg/snhalloffame.htm, or click on the Hall of Fame link on SN's website at supermarketnews.com. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 29.

Inductees into the 2008 Hall of Fame will be profiled in a story in SN's Dec. 1 issue.
