Walmart is giving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients a little more help through its Walmart program.

The cost of the subscription service has been reduced from $98 a year (or $12.95 monthly) to $49 a year ($6.47 monthly).

Walmart said about a quarter of Walmart members receive SNAP, and the move could increase Walmart shoppers significantly.

Walmart was created in 2020 and is comparable to Amazon’s Prime service. Those paying for Walmart receive free shipping, fuel savings, Paramount streaming access and unlimited deliveries of orders $35 or more.

According to Morgan Stanley, Walmart has about 21.5 million shoppers, or a 17% household penetration. Amazon Prime, however, has about 170 million members.
