EDMONTON, Alberta — Sobeys last week unveiled what it is calling its “Urban Fresh” store format here. The 18,000-square-foot store, Sobeys’ first store in downtown Edmonton, features a smaller selection than Sobeys’ suburban grocery stores, while emphasizing fresh and prepared foods in a European-inspired design. Sobeys, based in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, operates 20 corporate or franchised stores in Edmonton. Reports said last week Sobeys is preparing a second Urban Fresh store in Edmonton to open later this year.
