SpartanNash told state authorities in South Dakota that it plans to shutter a Rapid City warehouse.
The closure of the facility would impact 49 workers, according to Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spartan.
"This decision is not a reflection of our hard-working Rapid City DC associates but rather a strategic decision we are making in order to simplify our network to best serve our customers in the long term," the company said.
The warehouse, a former Nash Finch facility, is expected to close April 4. Spartan said it planned to transfer work at that location — which serves approximately 50 independent and corporate owned stores — to facilities in Fargo, N.D. and in Omaha, Neb., each of which carries 40% more products than the Rapid City site. The closure would leave SpartanNash with 12 grocery distribution facilities.
