QUINCY, Mass. — The Stop & Shop/Giant Family Foundation Gold Classic, scheduled at four area venues today, is expected to raise more than $1 million for the Stop & Shop/ Giant Family Foundation today.

The event kicks off Championship Week for the 2009 Deutsche Bank Championship, the second of four PGA Tour Playoff events.

The foundation was created to support educational and recreational programs for children in the communities served by Stop & Shop and Giant. The first Golf Classic in 2003 raised over $400,000, and since then the foundation has raised more than $5 million for children’s programs and charities.
