Stop & Shop Supermarket said Friday that it would complete its multi-million dollar conversion of 25 A&P stores in the Greater New York area when it opens the final acquired store next week in Mount Kisco, N.Y.
Stop & Shop, a division of Ahold, paid $25 million in a bankruptcy auction for the Mount Kisco A&P, the grocer’s most profitable store.
“On behalf of Stop & Shop, I would like to welcome all of our new associates and to thank our entire team for their tremendous efforts to ensure a smooth transition just in time for all stores to be ready for Thanksgiving. I also greatly appreciate the patience of our customers who stood by us throughout the conversion process,” Don Sussman, president of Stop & Shop New York Metro Division, said.
Stop & Shop rebranded all 25 former A&P stores in six weeks, keeping interruptions to customers to a minimum.
Through the conversion process Stop & Shop has offered employment to more than 3,000 former A&P associates. Quality assurance and other teams at Stop & Shop trained and certified department managers providing customers with knowledgeable experts in respective product categories. Stop & Shop will have extra staff on hand to assist new associates during the transition period while helping the stores prepare and welcome new customers for the busy holiday season.
In celebration of the grand openings, Stop & Shop made a total charitable contribution of $50,000 to 25 local non-profit organizations that are aligned with the company’s commitment to improve the lives of children, support hunger relief efforts and improve the health and wellness of customers.
“The acquisition of the 25 A&P stores will expand our presence in existing markets and provide our customers with a new shopping experience. We are so pleased to be part of these great communities, and we look forward to helping our customers save money, save time, and eat well everyday,” added Sussman.
