Two Walmart stores will close in July

Walmart is getting ready to shut down two stores in the metro Atlanta area.

The Supercenter store in Dunwoody and a Neighborhood Market in Marietta, which also has a pharmacy, are the marked locations and will power down on July 12.

Walmart said the stores are closing because they are underperforming.

Most associates at the stores will be moved to other locations within a 15-mile radius and receive pay through Sept. 20.

Pharmacy prescriptions will also be transferred to other locations.

Walmart said there are six other stores in the Marietta area, including a Supercenter less than four miles from the location that is closing. The Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer also said there are no additional closures planned for the region at this time.

“We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our store in Marietta, Ga.,” Walmart said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing to serve them at any of six other locations across the area, on walmart.com, and through delivery to their home or business.”

Walmart has experienced some instability over the last few weeks. In late May, the company announced it was laying off 568 workers in California.
