ROSEVILLE, Calif. — United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 8-Golden State here said Tuesday it has established informational picket lines at a Nugget Market and a Wal-Mart supercenter in West Sacramento.

Spokesmen for Nugget and Wal-Mart could not be reached for comment.

Jacques Lovell, president of the local, said the union is asking the public not to shop at the stores, alleging they provide substandard wages and benefits to their employees.

"Our members are prepared to do whatever it takes to ensure that workers at Nugget Markets and Wal-Mart have the same access to the good wages, health care benefits, pensions and job security provisions that are enjoyed by union members," he said.

UFCW Local 8-Golden State represents approximately 35,000 workers employed at grocery and drug stores, food processing plants and offices from the Oregon border to Kern County in Northern California.
