Wakefern to Buy 10 Stop & Shop Locations
Stop & Shop said Friday it plans to sell nine stores in southern New Jersey and one in Middletown, N.Y., to Wakefern Food Corp., supplier of the ShopRite chain.

QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop here said Friday it plans to sell nine stores in southern New Jersey and one in Middletown, N.Y., to Wakefern Food Corp., supplier of the ShopRite chain. SN had previously reported that discussions were taking place between the two parties for the South Jersey locations, which recently had been converted from the Super G name, another banner owned by Stop & Shop’s parent company, Ahold USA. Terms of the sales were not disclosed. It was not clear whether the acquired stores will be operated by Elizabeth, N.J.-based Wakefern as corporate ShopRites or by individual members of the co-op. The New Jersey stores are in the towns of Cherry Hill (two stores), Mt. Laurel (two stores), Absecon, Sicklerville, Laurel Springs, Rio Grande and Mullica Hill.
