KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. — Wegmans Food Markets opened a new, 123,000-square-foot store here Sunday, attracting 15,000 shoppers on its first day, according to a local report.
Wegmans had first expressed interest in the site in 1996, according to a report on Philly.com. It is the fifth Wegmans in the Pennsylvania suburbs of Philadelphia, joining stores in Downington, Warrington, Collegeville and Malvern. The chain also has two locations in the New Jersey suburbs of Cherry Hill and Mt. Laurel.
Promotional videos on the chain’s website tout the EDLP strategy on “family items,” emphasizing the Wegmans private label, as well as $6 meals and club-store pricing on bulk items “without the membership fees.” The videos also promote the in-store bar called “The Pub” and the extensive prepared food offering.
“Whether you are cooking for yourself or letting us do the cooking for you, Wegmans is here, helping you make great meals easy,” one video explains.
