LOS ANGELES — Unified Grocers here said the West Coast members of IGA provided more than 18 tons of food to local food banks as a result of IGA's "Help Fight Hunger for the Holidays" campaign during November and December — exceeding the prior year's contribution by three tons.

The total contribution amounted to 2,687 grocery bags — each containing $20 worth of groceries — which were pre-packed and sold to customers for $10, with IGA donating the other $10. The bags were then given to local food banks, with ribbons displaying the customers' names on them.

Unified supplies all 17 IGA stores in California, Oregon and Washington.
