AUSTIN, Texas — Whole Foods here said yesterday it has completed the previously announced sale of all 35 Henry’s Farmers Markets and Sun Harvest Markets to Smart & Final, Los Angeles, for about $166 million. Smart & Final also acquired a Riverside, Calif., distribution center in the transaction. Whole Foods will continue to supply certain products and services to the stores, located in California and Texas, for up to two years at an estimated break-even cost to Whole Foods. The stores and DC had been picked up as part of Whole Foods’ acquisition of Wild Oats last month. In addition, Whole Foods said it planned to close an additional 17 of the remaining 74 Wild Oats and Capers locations. Eight of those stores are located near existing Whole Foods sites in development, the company said. In the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, Whole Foods opened 21 new locations.
