Over 167,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets and chicken tenders have been recalled by Perdue Foods, Inc.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said the products may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically metal. The recall was issued late last week.
The chicken was produced on March 23. The following products are being recalled:
- Perdue Simply Smart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets (22-ounce vacuum-sealed plastic package) with Best By date of March 23, 2025
- Perdue Chicken Breast Tenders (29-ounce vacuum-sealed plastic package) with Best By date of March 23, 2025
- Butcherbox Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets (22-ounce vacuum-sealed package) with Best By date of March 23, 2025
The items were shipped to retail locations nationwide and sold online directly to consumers.
The problem was discovered after Perdue Foods received complaints about metal wire embedded in the products. Perdue then notified the FSIS.
There have been no reports of any illness or injury with these products.
There has been a surge in food recalls over the last month. In late July, Boar’s Head recalled 7 million pounds of deli meat due to a possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
Also in July Wiers Farm Inc., which supplies produce to retailers like Kroger and Walmart, expanded its vegetable recall because cucumbers might be tainted with Listeria monocytogenes.
