Aldi opens new store in Georgia 2023

Aldi continues to fill its shopping cart with new store openings in the U.S.

The Batavia, Illinois-based discount grocer opened its first store in Valdosta, Georgia, on Thursday. Located 15 miles north of the Florida state line, the new store is located in Lowndes County.

“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier, and we’ve been voted the price leader for six years running,” said Shaun O’Keefe, Jefferson regional vice president for Aldi US, in a statement. “We’re excited to open our first Aldi store in Valdosta and introduce local customers to a new, more affordable way of shopping.”

Aldi, which is zeroing in on the Southeast region of the U.S. following its deal to acquire the Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets chains from Southeastern Grocers (SEG), now operates over 70 stores in the Peach State, according to the company website.

But Aldi isn’t the only grocery retailer vying for market penetration in the Southeast.

Aldi’s new store, located at 3283 Jack Staten Way, comes a little over a week after Florida-based Publix Super Markets opened its newest Georgia location.

The employee-owned grocery retailer last Wednesday opened its newest location in Cumming, Georgia, which is 40 miles north of Atlanta.

Publix Super Markets’ presence in Georgia stands at 208 stores, according to its company website.
