Aldi US not only launched two new brick-and-mortar stores this week, but the grocer's new website is now online as well.
The rollout of the new digital commerce platform includes everything Aldi shoppers need to fill their carts, as the Batavia, Illinois-based grocery retailer continues its expansion nationwide both online and in stores.
Last fall, the no-frills German discount grocery chain teamed up with Spryker to develop a new digital commerce platform for its online food and grocery shopping experience for the U.S. market.
"Aldi, in partnership with Spryker Systems, is currently testing a new online food and grocery shopping experience with a select group of customers that will be rolled out nationally in a phased approach," Scott Patton, Aldi's VP of national buying, told Winsight Grocery Business following last October’s announcement regarding the partnership. "The new digital commerce platform will offer grocery delivery or curbside pickup, providing yet another way for Aldi U.S. shoppers to save time and money."
The new website drives shoppers through Aldi's own channels, rather than solely through third-party platforms.
Aldi US couldn’t immediately be reached by Winsight Grocery Business for further details or comment regarding the changes.
Spryker is a privately held technology company headquartered in Berlin and New York that has been working to provide a smooth experience for Aldi US shoppers.
Meanwhile, he discount grocer is looking to add 120 new stores this year, bringing its store count nationwide to more than 2,400. On Thursday, Aldi opened its second location in Lynchburg, Virginia, as well as Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier, and we’ve been voted the price leader for six years running,” said JR Perry, Saxonburg regional vice president for Aldi, in a statement. “We have served this community for more than 28 years and are excited to continue to offer Greensburg residents an affordable way of shopping.”
Shoppers looking to familiarize themselves with the new website can get a sneak peek at the Aldi fall gear that will be available starting Wednesday. The limited-edition Aldi merchandise includes pullovers, backpacks and slip-on shoes.
