Aldi US is continuing its expansion in the Midwest with the opening of a new store in Illinois on Thursday.

The discount grocer’s newest location is in Bartonville, at 3701 S. Airport Road, about 175 miles southwest of Chicago.

“We’re excited to open our first ALDI store in Bartonville and introduce local customers to a new, more affordable way of shopping,” said Heather McCarthy, Dwight regional vice president for Aldi, in a statement.

Illinois, the retailer's home state, holds the top spot for most Aldi locations at 212, according to the grocer's website.

Looking to expand further, the fast-growing discount grocer is also planning to open later this year at Six Corners, a shopping district in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago's Northwest Side.

Aldi will host a grand re-opening next month for its Gary, Indiana, location where it has “made more room for all the products you love—like fresh produce delivered daily and everyday essentials you can never have enough of,” Aldi announced on its website.

With a business model that is “intentionally different,” the Batavia, Illinois-based chain recently unveiled its new website that features an online shopping portal that drives shoppers through its own channels, rather than solely through third-party platforms.

Founded in 1961, Aldi recently now operates 2,312 stores nationwide.
