As part of its “New Relaxed You” New Year’s consumer educational campaign, the two-store, Boulder, Colo.-based Alfalfa’s Market is encouraging its customers to chill out in January with hemp-based cannabidiol (CBD) oils and food products.
As one of the first retailers to carry hemp-based CBD products, Alfalfa's has a long history of being an innovative grocer that not only concentrates on organic and natural products, but also a wide selection of health and wellness items.
The launch of Alfalfa’s 100-plus line of CBD and hemp-based product campaign was well-timed with the recent signing of the Farm Bill to legalize hemp farming, which is poised to become an even bigger business as consumers are increasingly seeking out natural ways to improve their health and well-being.
The surging popularity of CBD has been driven by demand for the products, which are linked with helping remedy a variety of issues, including reduced anxiety levels, muscle ailments, sleep disorders and pain relief.
“While other retailers may take a backseat to CBD, Alfalfa’s is energized to provide established national and emerging local CBD brands a platform for products that tout health benefits for our consumers,” Betty Bailey, Alfalfa’s wellness category buyer, said in a statement. “CBD is just one more category advantage Alfalfa’s has over other retailers in the marketplace, and we look forward to remaining an innovative and trusted leader in this growing national trend.”
To that end, Alfalfa’s carries more than 100 different products throughout its health and wellness departments, which range from skincare lotions, caplets, tinctures, chocolates and bite-sized cookies, locally roasted coffee and dog treats.
Despite ambiguous government regulations, Bailey affirmed that the CBD momentum continues to grow, especially in Colorado, where the sale and production of CBD in food and wellness products is legal.
“We’re at the forefront of seeing a category explode,” Bailey continued. “Consumers are curious and want to know the benefits of CBD and how they can incorporate these ingredients into their daily lives in a healthier and more natural way. At Alfalfa’s, we serve as a resource in helping our consumers discover new products and learn the benefits of CBD.”
