To celebrate its Texas heritage and its native food, products and chefs, H-E-B’s Central Market division is gearing up for the “Big Tastes of Texas” in-store event set for May 15-28.

During the two-week effort, Central Market stores in Fort Worth, Dallas, Plano and Southlake, Texas, will be brimming with unique products and stories from Texas farmers, growers and entrepreneurs all across the state.

Central Market worked with its creative agency, RBMM, to enlist Dallas-based artist Ernesto Pacheco, who painted each poster and banner scene for the event. Pacheco, who previously developed creative for Budweiser, PepsiCo and a variety of other Fortune 500 clients, used acrylic and then digitized the art, followed next by placing text on each of the Big Tastes of Texas posters.

A lineup of products that Central Market will showcase during the Lone Star State food event includes many fresh food items, such as:

Texas-grown produce, including blueberries; crimini mushrooms; on-the-vine tomatoes (red, yellow or orange); honeydew; and Texas 1015 sweet onions.

Texas seafood hailing from such vendors as Galveston Bay-based Jeri’s Oysters; Galveston Shrimp Co. (Central Market’s exclusive provider of fresh gulf U-15 shrimp); Katie’s Seafood, also based in Galveston and founded by Buddy Guindo, star of "Big Fish Texas" on National Geographic; El Campo-based Ekstrom Farms; and Sugarland-based Philly Seafood.

Signature baked goods will also be featured, such as Lady Bird Johnson lemon bundt cake; German chocolate brownies topped with chocolate icing and loaded with pecans and shredded coconut; and fruit kolaches filled with Central Market’s made in-store fruit fillings.

Other featured products will include a variety of select Texas-produced wine and beer; craft sodas; oatmeal; hot sauces and marinades; milk; ice cream; coffee; bone broth; and cheese.

Central Market will also highlight new items in the Chef’s Case during the event, such as Chicken Fajitas; Chicken Fried Chicken with Cream Gravy; Sliced Brisket; Brisket Stuffed Potatoes; Dr Pepper Ribs; Armadillo Eggs (jalapeno pepper wrapped in sausage then breaded and deep fried) with Buttermilk Ranch Cream Sauce; Cheese Enchiladas with Chili Gravy; Steak Fingers (a thinner cut version of chicken fried steak); and Shrimp and Crab Campechana, among others.

The retailer will also host Big Tastes of Texas cooking classes at all locations during the event.
