Dierbergs Markets broke ground this month on a new store in Lake Saint Louis, Mo.

Expected to open late next year, the 71,000-square-foot store in the Shoppes of Hawk Ridge would be the 26th for the family-owned, Chesterfield, Mo.-based chain. The project also calls for 17,000 square feet of adjoining retail space and two future building areas adjacent to Ronald Reagan Drive, Deirbergs said.

“Our family is so thrilled to be building a store in Lake Saint Louis. We put a lot of thought and energy into the design of this store and think our customers will enjoy seeing it come to life.” said Greg Dierberg, president and CEO of Chesterfield, Mo.-based Dierbergs Markets. “We feel the timing is right to open a location in this fast-growing community and pleased to be adding new jobs in the process.”

According to Planned Grocery data, there are two Schnuck Markets stores, a Walmart Supercenter, a Target and an Aldi within 3 miles of the new site. The area has attractive demographics and growth characteristics, with young families and above-average income.

Dierbergs said it was working with new partners for the development of the store, including CD Companies for architecture and engineering, and the general contractor PARIC, which will use numerous local union contractors to complete this build in time for the 2021 holiday season.

“The tractors are on-site and we’re moving dirt,” said Jonathan Hill, director of construction and development for Dierbergs Markets. “With our plan in place, we will be serving the Lake Saint Louis community in a little less than a year from now.”

Dierbergs and Capitol Land Co. said they would also begin leasing efforts for the new retail space, with the expectation of attracting local, regional and national service, retail and restaurant tenants.

“The Dierbergs development is a very important addition to the city of Lake Saint Louis, and also the surrounding area in St. Charles County and adjacent municipalities,” Kathy Schweikert, mayor of Lake Saint Louis said in a release. “The collaboration has been tremendous, from the team at Dierbergs to city staff, the Lake Saint Louis planning and zoning commission, and final approval from the board of aldermen. I’m grateful and so thrilled to have had the opportunity to play a part in this exciting enhancement to our popular Shoppes at Hawk Ridge shopping destination. Comments from the community also express their excitement to have Dierbergs in their neighborhood.”

Brent Beumer, VP of real estate for Dierbergs, credits the collaboration with city staff and elected officials to get through the site approval process quickly. “We’re thankful for everyone’s partnership in staying focused on the path to approval,” Beumer said. “Especially during the pandemic, when we encountered much potential for distraction. We continue to look forward to working with the city as we make progress on the site location.”
