Food Bazaar looking to widen its store count in New York City

A new Food Bazaar Supermarket is coming to Manhattan, according to commercial real estate and property investment firm Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL). The retailer signed a 25-year deal and is slated to open in spring 2025. 

The 37,212-square-foot full-service grocery will be located at 375 West 20th St. in the base of Sherman Creek North Cove, a new mixed-use property in the Sherman Creek neighborhood in Inwood, which is part of Upper Manhattan, JLL said Wednesday.

“We are extremely excited to introduce our Food Bazaar brand to this community, which is where the founders of Food Bazaar lived for many years,” said Edward Suh, executive vice president for Food Bazaar, in a statement. “As a company, we are passionate about supporting our local communities and we look forward to celebrating the neighborhood’s rich culture and heritage with a range of fresh food options catering to local demand.”

Features at the new store will include a full-service cheese section, coffee bean and roastery department, a full-service seafood department and a meat department selling custom cuts.

“As Sherman Creek evolves from a primarily commercial district to a dynamic community of new residential and mixed-use properties, open park space and waterfront access, Food Bazaar will fill the void for a full-service neighborhood supermarket providing fresh food options,” said Eli Weiss, principal of Joy Construction, in a statement. The project is being developed by MADDD Equities and Joy Construction. “We are thrilled to welcome them to Sherman Creek North Cove, which will bring much-needed high-quality workforce housing, tenant amenities and community recreation space to the area."

JLL Managing Director Hilary Sievers represented MADDD Equities in the transaction and JLL Executive Managing Director Erin Grace represented Food Bazaar.

Family-founded in 1988 and privately owned and operated, Food Bazaar has grown to over 30 full-service stores in the tri-state area.

On Thursday, Food Bazaar will officially reopen in Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy community at 1102 Myrtle Avenue, hosting a grand opening event at 10 a.m. New store features for shoppers to explore include a meat department with a butcher, a seafood counter, and organic and natural foods.
