Food City’s newest “state-of-the-art” location in Alcoa, Tennessee, opened on Wednesday, replacing the grocer’s existing location, the Abingdon, Virginia-based grocery retailer announced.

“We’re excited to be opening a new state-of-the-art Food City in Alcoa to serve our loyal customers,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer, in a statement. “They can expect to find the same smiling faces, top quality products and low prices they have come to expect from Food City, along with some great new services and conveniences.”

The 54,000-plus-square-foot retail supermarket is located at 1388 Tesla Blvd., in Alcoa, and features an in-store bakery/deli, complete with an Asian wok, hot food bar, cafe seating area, deluxe salad bar, hickory wood smoker, stone hearth pizza oven and fresh sushi.

Looking to expand its grocery selection, the company said the store features a floral boutique, pharmacy, Starbucks cafe and an off-site Food City Gas N’ Go. Food City's GoCart curbside pickup will be available as well.

“Our customers will enjoy the expanded variety/selection and exciting new conveniences and services the new store will offer,” said district manager, Barry Brogan, in a statement.

Rapid checkout service is provided by six check-out lanes and seven self-checkouts, the grocer said.

Looking to include energy saving concepts, the store features energy efficient glass cooler doors, parking lot lights and refrigeration systems to motion sensors and 100% LED lighting, as well as an open rafter ceiling design, Food City said.

Last month Food City broke ground in downtown Chattanooga for a 53,300-plus-square-foot supermarket, which is expected to open late summer and feature one of the retailer’s largest seating areas, including a sunroom and large outdoor patio.

K-VA-T Food Stores, which is Food City’s parent company operates 149 retail outlets throughout southeast Kentucky, southwest Virginia, east Tennessee, north Georgia, and Alabama.
