Giant Eagle Rolls Out Beer Delivery Service in Western Pa.

Giant Eagle has rolled out a home delivery beer service, BeerVan.com, from its Market District store in the Shadyside section of Pittsburgh. The retailer’s new beer delivery service will service six ZIP codes in its hometown market.

Customers can place online orders through BeerVan.com, which will deliver the brew to their homes within a two-hour delivery window.

“We’ve created BeerVan as a complement to the variety of convenience solutions we already have in place for our time-starved customers,” said Jannah Jablonski, Giant Eagle spokesperson, in a statement. “We’re excited to give our customers the ability to check one more thing off their to-do list without ever having to leave home.”

Giant Eagle’s new online beer delivery service gives beer drinkers of legal age an opportunity to search more than 150 domestic, craft and imported beers to add to their digital shopping cart. Product prices are the same as in-store. Customers placing and accepting deliveries of beer must be age 21 or older and present valid identification at the time of delivery.

There is no minimum order, but a maximum cap of 192 ounces applies to single transactions. The delivery fee is $4.99.

Deliveries will be made Wednesday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Payments are currently accepted only via PayPal.

Giant Eagle was the first grocery store in Pennsylvania to sell beer beginning in November 2009. The company has 460 retail locations throughout western Pennsylvania, north central Ohio, northern West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana.

In related news, Walmart is preparing to sell beer and wine at its first Pennsylvania location in South Union Township in Fayette County. The Bentonville, Ark.-based chain bid $65,000 for a liquor license, although no time frame has yet been revealed for when sales will start flowing in the Keystone State’s first beer-selling Walmart.
