Giant Eagle scraps fuelperks+ as it reimagines its loyalty program
The Pittsburgh-based grocer said fuelperks+ will be shut down on Jan. 25 and merged into a single loyalty program within its myPerks platform.
Regional grocer Giant Eagle is ending its fuelperks loyalty program early next year as it launches a revamped rewards offering, the retailer said Monday.
All fuelperks customers will be moved into an “enhanced” loyalty program on Jan. 25, and any unused fuel rewards points will be converted into myPerks rewards, Giant Eagle said.
Giant Eagle, in a note on its website, said that in addition to shutting down fuelperks , the grocer will be making improvements to its myPerks loyalty program.
“The enhanced program will combine the best benefits of both fuelperks and myPerks into a single loyalty program so we can continue to deliver great savings to all our customers at a time when they need it most,” Giant Eagle said in a statement. “We’ve listened to the feedback we’ve received from our customers and will be evolving the program to include the most popular perk redemption opportunities like free gas, up to 20% off groceries and the choice of dollar rewards.”
Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle has frequently tinkered with its fuel and grocery rewards platforms.
In 2019, the grocer reinvented its fuelperks! loyalty program, creating fuelperks . The new offering enabled customers to redeem their 10-cent reward for each $50 fuel purchase as 2% off a grocery order, up to 20% off any size order. Under the program, customers earned rewards for every Giant Eagle transaction, whether it be a grocery, pharmacy or fuel purchase. Fuelperks! rolled out systemwide in 2006.
Shoppers can continue to use their current Advantage Card to earn and redeem rewards points, the grocer said.
Giant Eagle launched its multi-tier myPerks rewards program three years ago.
Last month, the retailer debuted the myPerks Pay Rewards Visa Card, which gives cardholders 5 cents to 30 cents off per gallon of gas purchased at Giant Eagle-owned GetGo convenience stores, as well as 2% in rewards perks on purchases made inside Giant Eagle, Market District and GetGo stores.
“The new myPerks Pay Rewards Visa Card enables customers to earn perks on their everyday purchases to redeem for discounts at Giant Eagle and Market District, and inside GetGo,” the grocer said in a statement at the time. “We are confident the new myPerks Pay Rewards Visa Card will help customers realize meaningful value as they earn rewards more quickly and become more engaged with the benefits of our myPerks loyalty program.”
Giant Eagle operates more than 470 food, fuel and pharmacy retail locations across western Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana.
