Grocery Outlet, the fast-growing West Coast discounter, is continuing its East Coast expansion with a second store opening in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

“We are very excited about our growth in the mid-Atlantic market and look forward to building our brand awareness in this region,” Grocery Outlet CEO Eric Lindberg told WGB in an email this fall.

The extreme value grocery retailer opened its newest location on Thursday at 1401 Allen St., the retailer said Friday.

The new store brings 35 new jobs to the area and expands Grocery Outlet’s footprint with its first store located at 4628 Broadway in Allentown.

“We are so thrilled to join the Allentown community and provide another option for big savings on quality groceries,” said independent store operator Fayez Abboud in a statement. “This partnership with Grocery Outlet gives me the ability to grow my business, create new jobs and more importantly, give back to the local community.”

As part of Grocery Outlet’s community outreach, Abboud donated $1,000 to Allentown Area Ecumenical Food Bank in Lehigh County.

Offering the same brands as traditional grocery stores but at lower prices, Grocery Outlet’s buyers “scour the country to find the top manufacturers with excess inventory and seasonal closeouts so Grocery Outlet can offer ‘wow savings’ on thousands of name-brand products," the company said in a statement.

During its second quarter, the Emeryville, California-based Grocery Outlet reported earnings of $20.1 million—an increase of 2.3% compared to a year ago. The retailer raised its fiscal 2022 sales guidance to between $3.46 billion and $3.48 billion.

The extreme-value grocery retailer operates locations in California, Idaho, New Jersey, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington and Maryland. Grocery Outlet  stores are owned by independent operators based in the communities they serve.
